Update on Credit Card Reform Act of 2010
A major advantage of the new law, in my opinion, is the calculator comparison which shows how long to pay off at the current payment, plus how long to pay off at a slightly higher payment. I urge all readres to take this seriously, and use it. Do whatever it is you have to do to come up with the extra money to make the slightly higher payment. In most cases it is only 20 to 40.oo ollars per month, and will get you paid off in 3 or 4 years, provided you stop using the card.
Another big item to be aware of is the 800#, which is listed, for access to a consumer credit card consolidation program. Just be aware that these are non-profit credit counseling programs and are completely controlled by the banks. They survive because the banks pay them for every dollar paid to them, through the non-profit. The real problem is that they can only offer you one debt solution. So, if you are in a complicated debt situation and cannot afford your monthly payments now, chances are slim that they can help you.
